Domotics is among the most popular Trends in architecture for 2019

The last year has seen the strengthening of a popular trend within this concept: Smart Houses or Smart Homes Technologies associated with Automation and Robotics join architecture to offer us solutions that increase comfort within our homes, through ‘’Domotics”.

Domotics is the encounter of information technology and electronics that make a home become “smart”. It is the tool that enables us to control systems, devices, and automations with the aim of increasing the comfort and living quality of the domestic space, saving energy and money on bills and protecting the environment.

The word domotic (from the Latin word “domus”, house), is now part of the vocabulary used in modern architecture. Domotics is an integrated system for homes that provides the final user with modern comfort and a standard of security that cannot be achieved by the adoption of traditional systems or partial automations.

Every house has specific daily routine processes and needs. We have to concentrate on repetitive habits or similar situations that may be easily automatized. Turning the lights on to illuminate dark corridors and turning them off when no one is around and simply turning the lights on and off even when there is nobody at home are two basic examples. It may also mean automatically turning down the air conditioning/heating systems according to the external temperature, controlling cameras and security cameras and devices, etc.

Domotics, is an integrated system for homes that provides their residents with new comfort and a standard of security that cannot be achieved by the adoption of traditional systems or partial automations.

4 mistakes we should avoid when building a new home

Poor planning choices
People plan without taking their needs and lifestyle into consideration, in the long term. Apart from the present, there is a future ahead…. Are you now single and plan to get married? Are there any plans for children? How about later on in your life? Will the planning of your house be convenient and practical for you?

Underestimate the importance of the HVAC system
Very often we underestimate the importance of the HVAC system (Heating, Ventilation, Air Conditioning). When the HVAC system is not properly planned it will cause huge energy loss without offering the desired results. It may also be the cause for moisture and mold problems which can raise serious health problems.

Not enough storage space
A very common problem that many house owners face is lack of storage space and therefore, they end up dumping their unused things all over. Would you like your guestroom or kitchen eventually become a storage room? When planning your house remind your architect to include all the necessary storage spaces according to your own needs.

Unused Rooms
Due to our enthusiasm, we tend to add rooms in our house that we will hardly use, like a gym, an office, a playroom, a cinema room… When planning these rooms it is a good idea to consider a few ways we can use this extra space so that when it is not used for the purpose it was built for, we will be able to easily transform it into something else, instead of dumping stuff we do not use or need.

Did you Know that IMPERFECTION can be beautiful?

In Japanese aesthetics, Wabi-sabi is a world view centered on the acceptance of transience and imperfection. Imperfection is beautiful… Wabi-sabi aesthetics include: asymmetry, roughness, simplicity, austerity, modesty, intimacy, and appreciation of the ingenuous integrity of natural objects and processes. Wabi-sabi can find new applications in contemporary architecture and interior design, making us appreciate the beauty of handmade objects through the use of natural materials.

Colors – psychology emotions

Did you Know that colors affect our psychology and emotions?
Are we looking for a peaceful and calming environment?
We might choose cool colors such as green and/or blue, as they are considered restful. There is actually scientific logic applied to this – because the eye focuses the color green directly on the retina, it is said to be less strainful on our eye muscles. Blue is also a typically calming and serene color, said to decrease respiration and lower blood pressure. The bedroom is a great place to use these two colors as they could help us relax and sleep well….

At Kuutio we focus on the function!

At Kuutio we focus on the function!
Five of the top 10 requested features for new homes deal with functionality and storage: Kitchens, walk-in closets, linen closets, walk-in pantries and laundry rooms. It is extremely important to remember that rooms that are functional don’t have to be huge. If you have a giant kitchen but nowhere to store your foodstuff the room won’t be as useful….
When we plan these functional areas, we always focus on storage and shelving.
